Jar Jar was a horribly designed character and no one ever wanted to see another CG character until Gollum came along. WETA have taken the base that ILM have built and have gone on to take it to the next level. Avatar was amazing visually and the natural environment and the way they went about doing things was just incredible. They have failed time and time again on making organic characters as they proved with the last few star wars movies. They used the panning and cutting to hide the mistakes and to distract the viewers. If you watch it you can clearly see all the mistakes in the transformations. To make a robot in VFX is not that hard because it is mechanical and based on rigid physics. but a company like Double Negative who is just 12 years old is standing in the Oscars and win. for sure they got more experience and awards. now see what the best Digital Domain work ( The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ) and what is the best Weta did unit now ( Lord of the Rings trilogy - King Kong )Īnd we need to mention that ILM is more than 35 years old. Weta and Digital Domain almost created in the same time 1993-1994. While a company like Double Negative was nominated for 3 Oscars and win one for ( Inception ) in the same year 2011. it looks they got worst not better in their work !. and how the face of Jeff Bridges was not realistic even they worked in Brad Pitt's face as "Benjamin Button" years ago. I am really disappointed in them because they couldn't put ( TRON: Legacy ) in the nomination list in 2011. However I respect ILM and it is the time they come back not just as nominated but as winner too. and nothing personal will come between the work and the award !

īut in Visual Effects and Sound and other technical stuff it is fact and it is based on the professional decision and we see it on the screen how good that CGI is. specially in other activities like acting and directing because sometimes it depend on some other elements and personal that just the judges know about it. I am not trying to make the Oscars as a point to categorize who is good and bad. Then when they made the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). They were nominated for the Transformers (2007) but they didn't win !!. It was a big opportunity specially for ILM to win an Oscar.
